Pathways to EYP Status

If you have a Degree or Foundation Degree the right pathway for you is largely determined by your level of experience working with children aged 0-5 years.

The table below shows the different pathways. The pathway providers will help you identify which one is appropriate to you.

Typical Candidate

Graduate requiring a small amount of learning or experience before they can demonstrate the EYP Standards

Early Years Foundation Degree qualified practitioners. People with a degree and limited experience of working with children from birth to five but who are looking to pursue a career working in early years. Undergraduates completing a degree in Early Childhood Studies (or equivalent full and relevant degree reflecting the EYFS outcomes at Level 6)

Open University


OU are no longer working in partnership with NDNA to deliver EYP pathways. We are awaiting confirmation if other EYP providers are able to fund the OU degree top-up as part of the Undergraduate Practitioner Pathway, and will update this website when known.

SCIL (Somerset Centre for Integrated Leadership) are delivering pathways in the South West as part of the University of Worcester partnership (previously SWIfT) . SCIL will continue to work in partnership with Bournemouth University for practitioners completing the degree top-up and wishing to progress to the Undergraduate Practitioner Pathway.
